“Are you certain?” Star Captain Avedis radioed back to Star Commander Donatis. The Elemental scouts were a half-kilometer ahead, desperately searching for a gap in the Com Guard line, and like before, they may have found it.

The most brutal fighting Avedis had ever experienced had filled the last two days. After the scathing taunt by Precentor Yekel, all restraint was cast to the wind. Breen’s attitude and demeanor spun a complete one-eighty. With a roar, both Galaxies turned and charged back into the Devil’s Bath.

Pillar by granite pillar and geyser by geyser, they pushed back against the Com Guards. Ammo supplies were nearing exhaustion and not a ’Mech was undamaged, yet the Vipers fought on. Some even engaged in dishonorable physical combat with mud-stained white ’Mechs of the Com Guards.

“Aff, Star Captain. Only a trio of ’Mechs here, medium weight, and no rock formations for hiding. The closest points for an ambush are a half-click to either side.”

Avedis nodded. “It could still be a trap. Check those points, but we shall not wait.” He keyed the comm to what was left of his Trinary. “My Viper brothers and sisters. Rally to me. We have found our path forward. Let them now feel the Viper’s venom!”

Avedis kicked his Battle Cobra into a run, charging forward
